| For those that recall the earlier GD designs, it looked basically like the B&B in regards to weld quality but time proved that was not as reliable as doing it on the inside. Many more of those sets ended up cracking if memory serves. I hear it's a hell of a lot harder and more work to do it from the inside but alas, I am not a welder. Just relaying information. Snippet from http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=1078811 We weld our pipes on the inside and grind them smooth for 2 reasons...... The first reason is because by welding on the inside of the pipe, the pipe and flange become much stronger....The reason it is stronger is because having the pipe come through the flange without a weld at the edge ads strength to the weakest part of the pipe where it wants to flex. By welding the outside you are making the pipe weakest right at the flex area that needs to be the strongest. The copies are double welded at the flange almost insuring that they will crack. The second reason we weld our pipes on the inside and grind them smooth is so there is the least amount of turbulence from rough pipe edges and welding slag. Hope this helps explain it some.
If you think defending quality shops and site sponsors with proven records makes him a whore, then you are the ones with the problem. Stop being bitches. - October 21, 2003 at 06:16 PM
